When new developments began encroaching on their home, Melissa and her family decided it was time for a change. They soon fell in love with a handsome detached residence, drawn in by its impressive square footage and expansive gardens. Eager to create an ideal family home, Melissa had many renovation ideas, with a particular focus on transforming the formal lounge into a functional and inviting space.

One of the most challenging areas in the renovation was the formal lounge. Due to its size and central location, the family decided to split the room into two distinct zones: a sophisticated seating area around the elegant stone fireplace, and a cozy movie-watching area. The goal was to create a multi-functional space that could serve as both a grown-up retreat and a family-friendly entertainment hub without compromising on style.

To bring their vision to life, Melissa and her family collaborated with the experts at Pure Theatre, who specialize in concealed home cinema solutions. After visiting the Pure Theatre demo facility, they were able to select the ideal equipment to meet their needs:

• CR220 Projector Screen: The screen was cleverly integrated into the ceiling using a UK-manufactured projector screen mechanism, allowing it to be completely hidden away when not in use. This ensures the room maintains its clean, uncluttered look, with the technology only visible during movie time.
• CR50 Projector Lift with Epson EH-TW9400 Projector: A high-quality projector was installed in the ceiling, paired with a projector lift that allows it to be completely concealed when not in use.
  Audio System:
• 2 x Monitor Audio In-Wall Speakers: Installed within the walls to deliver crisp, clear sound without disrupting the room’s aesthetic.
• 4 x Monitor Audio In-Ceiling Speakers: Positioned in the ceiling to create an immersive surround sound experience.
• REL Subwoofer: Added for deep, rich bass, enhancing the overall audio experience, whether the family is watching movies or enjoying sports with friends.

The primary challenge was designing a space that could serve dual purposes—both as a formal lounge and a casual movie-watching area—without compromising on the room’s aesthetic. The ability to completely conceal the projector and screen within the ceiling was critical to achieving this goal. This approach allowed the family to maintain the room’s sophisticated look while still having access to a high-quality home cinema experience when desired.

An additional consideration was sound quality. Initially, the family had not planned for an advanced audio system, but after experiencing the difference during their visit to the Pure Theatre demo facility, they opted for a surround sound system. This decision transformed the room into a true entertainment hub, with phenomenal sound quality that enhances both movies and sports viewing.

The final result is a beautifully designed lounge that seamlessly blends form and function. On one side, the elegant seating area around the stone fireplace provides a perfect space for relaxation and conversation. On the other side, a large, comfortable sofa faces a hidden 95” projector screen, creating an ideal spot for family movie nights.

Thanks to the concealed technology and high-quality surround sound system, the room offers an immersive entertainment experience without sacrificing its clean, sophisticated aesthetic. The space is now a versatile area that the family can enjoy daily, whether for watching movies, hosting friends, or simply unwinding by the fire.

This project exemplifies how thoughtful design and the right technology can transform a traditional room into a multi-functional space that meets modern family needs.
