Dedicated Home Cinema in Portugal

After previously installing a concealed home cinema system in another property, this client returned to Pure Theatre to create a dedicated cinema room in their Portuguese home. With a passion for high-quality home entertainment, their goal was to design an immersive space that delivered outstanding picture and sound quality. Unlike their previous project, where concealment was a priority, this time, the main focus was on performance, particularly achieving the best possible audio experience. To ensure an immersive cinematic experience, the client wanted a high-end surround sound system paired with a large-format screen and a premium projector. 

A 135” Pure Theatre Custom Acoustic screen was selected in an Anamorphic format, as the rooms main use would be for watching movies. Placed behind this screen are three Dali Phantom S-180 in-wall speakers for the front left, center, and right channels, ensuring a seamless and powerful audio experience. Two additional S-180 speakers were installed for left and right surround sound, with grilles painted to match the walls for a discreet look. To create a full Dolby Atmos experience, four Dali Phantom K-80 in-ceiling speakers were installed for height channels, while the rear surrounds were also placed in the ceiling due to the seating position against the back wall. A REL Carbon Special Subwoofer was positioned at the front to provide deep, rich bass.

For projection, the client opted for a Sony VPL-VW590ES projector, offering incredible 4K native resolution and stunning image quality. Unlike previous projects where concealment was a priority, this dedicated cinema space allowed the projector to remain visible. A Pure Theatre wall mount was used for installation, which was then painted to blend in with the wall, ensuring it remained unobtrusive.

One of the challenges in this space was integrating the rear surround speakers effectively, as the cinema seating was positioned directly against the back wall. To overcome this, ceiling-mounted speakers were used to provide a well-balanced and immersive surround sound experience. Another consideration was ensuring that all AV components worked together seamlessly. The Arcam AV40 16-channel AV processor and Arcam PA720 7-channel power amplifier were chosen to drive the sound system, providing powerful and refined audio performance.

The completed home cinema is a stunning, high-performance entertainment space that perfectly meets the client's vision. The combination of a large acoustic screen, premium projector, and immersive surround sound system creates a truly cinematic experience. Thoughtful integration of speakers and a carefully selected audio setup ensures that every movie, sports event, or gaming session is enjoyed at the highest level.
